District football takes centre stage this year, with Albury radio station 2AY taking its Saturday morning sports show The Critic on the road.

General Manager Brendan O’Loughlin says it’s a chance to put the spotlight on leagues and clubs that don’t always get significant media attention.

“It’s a way to broaden what we do for local football,” Brendan said.

“We’ve had a great response to our live coverage of Ovens & Murray League matches and this is the next step.

“The boys will hit the road and really try and support major club events, milestones and fundraisers and boost things along in those rural communities.”

Host Simon Corr says the reaction from clubs has already been positive.

“A lot of these district football communities are really pumped about it,” he said.

“They’re planning big days around what we’re doing – such as a ‘Kick it for Nick’ fundraiser for Nick Dempsey at Jindera for Round 2, a cancer awareness round at Rutherglen and Holbrook’s 125 year football club anniversary.”

The Critic will broadcast live at various clubs between 11am – 1pm. For more information visit the 2AY website http://www.2ay.com.au/
