Managing Director of Albury based HIB Insurance Brokers, Michael Alexander has been named as a finalist for Broker of the Year (independent 1-19 staff) at this year’s Insurance Business Awards.
The awards define excellence in the insurance industry by recognising the achievements of outstanding brokers, brokerages, insurers, underwriters and industry leaders across a range of categories.
Alexander says he was humbled to be nominated by his industry peers for the awards.
“It came as a bit of a surprise actually, I wasn’t even aware that I had been nominated and now I’m a finalist,” Alexander said.
Alexander is no stranger to the industry, starting out with his parents, who ran the business, for over 30 years.
“I enjoy the interaction with people, both clients and the insurers,” he said.
“We’ve also grown to become a specialist broker in the Australian amusement space – amusement rides and amusements parks.”
“When I started in the business we didn’t even have a client who had one jumping castle, now we’d be the biggest insurance broker in that space in Australia.
“While that’s a speciality area we’re involved in we also work with all types of businesses – anything from small SME’s to large businesses in Albury Wodonga as well.”
Alexander also credits his success and the growth of the business to his staff.
“We’ve got a good group of staff and team environment and building a good culture is what I’m most proud of,” he said.
“If you have a good culture in the business, everything else just flows on from that.”
The 2018 Insurance Business Award winners will be revealed this Friday 4 May at a gala event in Sydney
