A gathering of local fashion designers, retailers and hair and beauty industry experts will feature in a fashion show in Albury on Sunday 16 September, designed to highlight the creative talent in our own backyard and counter the rise of overseas online shopping.

Organiser of the GO Fashion Show, Bernadette Torresan of GO Local Media Group says the event is stylish way to promote the offerings of local designers and retailers.

“My vision is to create a platform for local designers and retailers to bring seasonal trends to the catwalk.

“It is evident online shopping has created concern for retailers world-wide with the closures of retail outlets. This makes for a sad CBD space for locals and visitors when there are little retail options to enjoy.

“I fear with cheap online shopping options taking over the market, consumers not only have no gratitude for the development in design and manufacturing of garments, but also do not see the impact it has on local families and the community as a whole.”

It’s hoped the GO Fashion Show will encourage greater support for local creatives.

“My vision is to bring back local support in the way of a stylish event, which adds value back into the fashion industry by displaying the intricate details of designer outfits and also allows retailers the opportunity to showcase their latest trends away from an online store,” Bernadette said.

The fashion show will feature special guest Pamela Petherbridge, who has compared and co-ordinated the Golden Gown Awards for 25 years. Forty models, six local designers, three retailers and 10 hair and beauty designers will participate in the event.
