Kinky Boots to Fill

“Ladies, Gentlemen, and those who have yet to make up their minds”, Albury Wodonga Theatre Company is proud to announce its next big smash, Kinky Boots.

The group behind recent local theatrical hits of Cats, Chicago and Wicked is searching far and wide for its next two leading men.

Based on true events, Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie Price, a recent university graduate who has reluctantly inherited his father’s shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy.

Whilst trying to live up to his father’s legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Drag Queen and Cabaret performer Lola. A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man that he is meant to be.

As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible, and discovers that, when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.

Lola Who?

Kinky Boots, currently still showing on Broadway and London’s Westend, is the winner of six Tony Awards, including Best MusicalBest Score (by pop legend Cyndi Lauper) and Best Book (by four-time Tony winner, Harvey Fierstein).

Albury Wodonga Theatre Company’s production will be the amateur Premier for NSW and hits the Albury Entertainment Centre stage in May 2019.

Producer, Amy Murray, claims filling the big red boots will be no easy feat.

“Our two leading men are both required to have a great pop rock style voice and strong acting ability,” Amy said.

“And of course, our Lola needs to be able to kick it in a pair of high heels too!

“In saying that, auditioning requires no prior experience of performing, so if you’ve always wanted to give it a go there’s no time like the present.”

Despite the casting challenges, the production team is confident of filling their cast of approximately 35 with talented performers from the local region and is excited by the potential leading into the upcoming auditions.

If you think you have what it takes, auditions for Kinky Boots are being held on November 10th and 11th at Wodonga Senior Secondary College. Bookings are essential. For more information you can visit www.auditions.ratnews.com.au/, email[email protected] or call 0466891206.
