This refreshing new bar might just be worth the drive. A city style vibe blends with a fun and flirty modern space at Cobram Barooga’s fresh new bar, Nineteen 81.
Located in a separate, stand-alone section of Sporties Barooga, this funky new bar is set in an industrial themed space, with lots of naked wood, polished concrete and copper, spilling out onto the deck.
Marketing Manager of the Sporties Group, Brandon Pomeroy says while the bar is truly modern, it pays homage to the club’s heritage.
“Nineteen 81 is the year that the Barooga Sports Club was first opened, and was formed by members of the footy club,” Brandon said.
“It was a vibrant and dynamic venue. We wanted to reconnect with the young and young at heart by creating a new modern social space and recapturing some of that vibe of when we began.”
Nineteen 81 has a focus on craft beer, cocktails, bubbles or wine that is very distinct from what visitors might find in the main club. Their tap range includes brews from Beechworth Brewery, Pirate Life and Matilda Bay. Their experienced bar team also prides itself on nailing the perfect Espresso Martini.
There’s nothing pretentious about their food offering – think modern and casual tucker such as pizzas and burgers.
While the venue’s opening has been eagerly anticipated by locals, the venue is expected to give visitors an extra reason to come to town.
“We do a lot of golf tourism in Cobram Barooga,” Brandon said
“It’s something we think can really add value to the region as a tourism destination and also encourage day trippers from Albury Wodonga, Shepparton and Benalla to experience something that’s a little bit unique.”
The bar launches this Saturday night 22 June and also features Sunday session entertainment on the deck with duo Dani California from 2:00pm.
