Having already conquered Broadway and the West End, Kinky Boots is set to delight local audiences with its original songs composed by none other than U.S. pop sensation Cyndi Lauper.
Kinky Boots marches into Albury-Wodonga for a seven-show season at the Albury Entertainment Centre from Friday 10 May courtesy of the award-winning Albury-Wodonga Theatre Company.
Based on the 2005 film, and inspired by true events, Kinky Boots, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth tells the story of University graduate Charlie Price (played by Mali Mckie), who reluctantly inherits a shoe factory from his father in Northampton.
Charlie goes on to form an unlikely partnership with the extravagant cabaret performer and Drag Queen Lola (played by Abu Abdul Kebe) to produce a line of high-heeled boots and subsequently save the business from foreclosure.
Combining factory workers and flamboyant drag queens, the story follows their respective struggles and to make ends meet in an economy that’s left them behind. As they work to turn the factory around, Charlie and Lola find that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible, and discover that, when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.
The Kinky Boots set is huge and colourful. The show stopping finale of the first act ends with the catchy and likeable song Everybody Say Yeah and a remarkable spectacle, where the entire cast perform on working factory conveyer belts; a scene you don’t want to miss!
Kinky Boots is a terrific looking production with dynamic performances from the leads right down to the energetic ensemble who achieve great synergy on stage.
Kinky Boots is the winner of every major musical award including six Tony Awards, for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book (by four-time Tony winner, Harvey Fierstein).
Kinky Boots at the Albury Entertainment Centre opens on Friday 10 May and runs till 18th May. Book online through the Albury Wodonga Theatre Company facebook page or phone the Box Office on 02 6043 5610 to book your seat!
