One of Albury’s most visited destinations, Monument Hill featuring the city’s War Memorial, is open again to pedestrians and vehicles following the completion of a redevelopment.
A flag raising ceremony by AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack and Member for Albury, Justin Clancy, with RSL President Major Graham Docksey in attendance signalled the opening of the site to vehicles and pedestrians.
“It’s been a long time in coming,” Mr Docksey said.
“We made sure that the RSL and the Veteran community had a strong input into this community project from the get-go, right through and we’re now planning the major opening perhaps sometime in August. It’s important that the community can now visit their memorial.”
The project features improved roadways, landscaping, retaining wall replacement, upgrade of CCTV cameras, fixtures, furniture and lighting and power for events such as ANZAC Day. Plaques are also due to be installed, commemorating Australia’s war effort and other contributions.
